What is a Donor Advised Fund, and can I use mine to support the Coin Campaign?Updated 16 days ago
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account held at a sponsoring organization. You contribute assets to your DAF, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to qualified public charities over time.
Yes, Complexly is a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity and gladly accepts grants from DAFs, including for the Coin Campaign. We can receive recommendations from virtually any DAF sponsor or clearinghouse, including national providers (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust), community foundations, and faith-based or workplace-affiliated funds.
What information will my DAF sponsor need to send a grant?
When recommending a grant, your DAF sponsor will typically ask for the following:
ORGANIZATION DETAILS
Legal name | Complexly Inc. |
EIN (Tax ID) | 39-4158305 |
Mailing address | PO Box 8147, Missoula, MT 59807 |
Tax status | 501(c)(3) public charity |
Most DAF portals allow you to search by EIN, entering 39-4158305 will pull up our record directly. If your sponsor mails physical checks, please use the PO Box address above.
Which DAF providers can I give through?
Effectively all of them. Complexly can accept grants from any sponsor that distributes funds to U.S. 501(c)(3) public charities, including but not limited to:
Fidelity Charitable
Schwab Charitable
Vanguard Charitable
National Philanthropic Trust (NPT)
DAFgiving360
Community foundations and regional DAF sponsors
Workplace, faith-based, or affinity-group DAFs
If you're not sure whether your sponsor is supported, send us a note and we'll confirm.
Can I restrict my DAF gift to the Coin Campaign, to make sure it’s counted and I get my Coin?
Yes. When you recommend your grant, you can ask your DAF sponsor to include a purpose note (for example, supporting a particular initiative or campaign - in this case, the Coin Campaign). Many sponsors also allow you to set up recurring grants, monthly, quarterly, or annually, directly from your DAF account.
For the Coin Campaign, we recommend contacting us in addition (via email at [email protected]) so we can match incoming DAF gifts to the correct donor, and ensure you get your Coin.
How will I be acknowledged for my DAF gift?
Because the IRS treats the DAF sponsor as the legal donor, you will not receive a separate tax acknowledgment from Complexly (you already received your deduction when you funded your DAF). However, we'll send you a personal thank-you letter recognizing your recommendation, and — unless you've asked your sponsor to keep the gift anonymous — we'll list you in donor recognition materials according to our standard policy.
If you'd like your gift to remain anonymous, please instruct your DAF sponsor to omit your name when transmitting the grant.
What if I run into a problem or my sponsor needs more information?
Please contact our Development Department, at [email protected]. They can provide additional documentation, confirm receipt of grants, help with designated giving, or troubleshoot any issue your DAF sponsor raises.
